Frequently-asked questions about hiring a skip
How do I hire a skip in Alloa?
You contact us and we will discuss your requirements in the following manner:
Size of the skip
• Type of waste
• Preferences for delivery date and time of day
• Site – driveway, street, garden, or yard
We will then provide you with a quote that includes the following:
• Professional waste recycling and disposal
This price does not include the following:
• The applicable value-added tax (VAT) rate
• Any permit fees that may apply (if your skip must be placed on a public road).
If you decide to proceed, we can instantly take a card payment over the phone and schedule you in for the specified date.
Our skip lorry driver will deliver and drop off the skip at the agreed upon time and location. After that, you have up to seven days to fill it with rubbish.
Once you’ve filled or completed your skip, simply call us to arrange a mutually suitable collection date for us to come and remove the filled skip. Completed
If you require another skip, simply inform us when you phone to arrange for the off-hire of the old one and we will arrange an exchange (at an additional cost).
Do I require a permit from Clackmannanshire Council?
For a skip on your driveway, private yard, or garden a permit is not required.
If you intend to install a skip on a public road, however, you must obtain permission from your local council. See the Clackmannanshire Council website for details on the fees and time required to obtain one.
If you are unable to wait or do not wish to pay for a permit, we can assist you with alternative options, including the following:
Wait and load skip hire is perfect if you have your rubbish prepared and are able to rapidly load it into our roadside skip (e.g. in 30 minutes to 1 hour).
Man with a van service – our operative will load your waste into our truck then drive it away (no skip required).
Due to the fact that each of these services is deemed “loading,” they are exempt from the requirement for a skip permit.
What Can’t I Put in a Skip?
The following items are not permitted in a normal mixed waste skip:
Liquids include paint, oil, and petrol/diesel.
Refrigerators and fridge freezers*
Televisions and laptop computers**
Significant volumes of electrical waste (e.g. commercial light fittings)**
Asbestos of any kind
* these must be degassed professionally.
** There are costs associated with the disposal of specialised waste electric and electrical equipment (WEEE).If you have any of these items to discard, please inform us during your skip hire call and we may be able to assist you.
Are you able to place a skip in my garden?
If you lack a driveway and are unable to obtain a road permit but still require a skip; smaller (up to 8-yard) “chain” skips can be placed in a garden. However, adequate access is required for the skip lorry to lift the skip into place, so it really depends on your garden and the obstacles between it and the street, such as the height of hedges, fences, or boundary walls.
Because larger roll-on roll-off container skips are put into place rather than lifted, they cannot be placed in a garden. Additionally, keep in mind that a skip is heavy, which means that any skip will damage the grass beneath.
If you wish to place a skip in your garden, please speak with our experts in detail when you phone. If it is not possible to put a skip into your garden then we do offer the alternative waste collection service options, outlined below:
• Wait and load skip hire – suitable if you have your waste ready to go and can quickly load it into our roadside skip (e.g. within 30 minutes to 1 hour).
• Man and van service for bulk uplift: our operative picks up your garbage and loads it into a tipping van, which transports it away (no skip).
